I just noticed that TSD is showing 1920 x 1088 for my recordings but MediaInfo shows 1920 x 1080. I don't think it's affecting anything though. Just FYI  :)

It depends on what you believe.

Do you want the explanation that is relevant to most people or the explanation that comes from people who know the detailed technical background?

For most people this explanation is valid: The video has a visible resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

If you know the technical details, you know that the actual resolution of mpeg-encoded streams must be a resolution that can be divided by 16. 16 is the size of a mpeg block. 1080 can not be devided by 16 but 1088 can.

So what is the truth? 1080 or 1088?

Maybe 1080 is the truth and 1088 is the real truth or the other way around.

Encoded in the mpeg picture parameters is 1088 and that is what TS-Doctor is presenting.

It's encoded as a 1920x1088 bitmap but visible are only 1920x1080 pixels.

The Motion Picture Experts Group must have had a big Christmas party the night before they wrote that spec! Maybe they thought they needed to have some sync and blanking space  ;D :P

Many aspects of the MPEG specifications give the impression that the guys were permanently drunk  ;)
