That's good info. Getting back to the issue at hand: Can TSDr overcome the shortcomings of Haali and LAVlight?

There is not much to overcome. What is not there (I Frames) can't be found. My "Trick" in such a situation: Cut loosely. If maneuvering is not really possible, I leave a lot of spare (30s or even more) at the end of the film.
After the run through the doc I reopen the output file and recut the end. This time usually maneuvering is working a lot better (dunno why, maybe the doc'S run "smoothed" the video by throwing out parts that distracted the splitter before?) and you are able to cut at the correct position then.

Takes more time but works usally.
Give it a try.

Changing from mpeg2 to h.264 has improved picture quality but more than doubled the amount of time it takes. Yes, loose cutting problem files is a way to get something manageable to edit whilst preserving subs. I wish I could do it all in TSD though  :-*
